Why the Project
The Dunkirk-Ukraine story began at the beginning of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, when two of the founding members decided to welcome a Ukrainian family. Leaving an information meeting organized in Tilques at the beginning of March, Alice and Benjamin decided to get involved in welcoming and accompanying Ukrainians.
History and evolution
The creation of the collective
They quickly launched a collective of volunteers wishing to help the Ukrainian people. A Facebook group is created on March 17, 2022.
On March 27, 2022, in Téteghem, about fifty women and children and some men arrived by bus from Poland. This is the beginning of the adventure...
The desire was that the refugees, mainly women and their children, would be able to quickly integrate into a host family. Then everything went very fast. Administrative formalities (Prefecture, CPAM, Pôle Emploi, CAF ..., the first registrations in schools for children, registrations for French courses thanks to volunteers, but also donations of clothing and cash, which the Collective could not accept, having no legal personality
The creation of the association
As a matter of urgency, the founders of the collective decided to transform the collective into an association. The association "Collectif Dunkerque Ukraine" is declared on May 5, 2022, statutes are drafted quickly and filed with the Sub-prefecture of Dunkirk, the association is registered under the number W594012661.
The structuring of the association
A few months later, the founding members realized that the activity was intense and fully met the needs of Ukrainian refugees, who also evolved with the passage of time. Thus, at the end of November 2022, more than 200 families are or have been accompanied by the association.
It is also a broadening of the activities of the association, especially in the field of housing. As the weeks go by, the accommodation solutions offered – both family and emergency accommodation – show their limits. What is acceptable for a short time becomes much more difficult to live with in time, especially promiscuity.
This is why the association accompanies more and more families in their search for independent housing, and in a job search (which most often involves learning French, but also the recognition of Ukrainian diplomas (VAE, ENIC-NARIC) and / or vocational training.
In addition, the arrival of winter in the context of a conflict that is here to last will most likely lead to a new wave of departures of Ukrainians who will seek to protect themselves from dramatic energy cuts.
The founding members decided to structure their governance. They have thus called on people whose skills, address book and / or notoriety will give a new dimension to the association.
To date, our association helps a little more than 200 Ukrainians in the Dunkirk basin.
We would like to thank you in advance for your time, donations and support.
